Born in 1958 In Yerevan. Graduated from the Faculty of Cinematography of VGIK in 1987. Worked with many directors both in Armenia and abroad (75 directors, including the world-famous Artavazd Peleshyan). He shoots features and documentaries both in Armenia and in Russia, as well as in different countries (BBC, Discovery Channel, “Культура”). Many films created by him have participated in the international festivals and received awards. He is a double winner of the State Prize (2003 and 2017). He has been a member of the Armenian Film Academy since 2011. In 2017, the Armenian Film Academy awarded him the “Best Cinematographer” nomination of the year. Since 2017, he has been elected the president of the Armenian Cinematographers Guild. In 2006 and 2011 he was a member of the jury at the “Golden Apricot” international film festival. In 2018 he was a member of the main jury at the “Kinoshok” Russian Open Film Festival.
